Pre-Venue Performance Services - Media & Promotion

MGN uses and maintains a media database consisting of radio, television and print, as well as publicists, and other media services. Deeper than just the outlet contact info, each outlet is broken down into music/talent- related contact people on radio and TV shows, and all print media that deals with the music business. Contact info for editors, writers and data gatherers is included. This very complete database interfaces with all Profile databases for use in promoting gigs, artists, and venues.

The database is useful for setting up radio interviews prior to a road trip, on the fly during a road trip, and to promote gigs to local media for touring and local bands and used to promote shows at venues.

The Promo Module accessed through Profiles provides a wizard to setup the various bot options, and includes media buying options. For example, if a band or venue (or any member with a Profile) wants to buy a quarter-page ad in the local music weekly, menus offer a direct interface with the media outlet, including payment options and all advertising particulars. Options allow for ads to be auto-renewed, or for the user to be alerted when ads are expiring.

Free music listings in print and radio are automatically submitted via email or FAX. If the media outlet only accepts snail mail, this is flagged within the module, in case the user wishes to print and mail info. Interfaces with USPS.com can offer options for free pickup for mail, especially convenient for mass mailings of EPKs or review CDs/DVDs.

For band and venue mailing lists, besides using email and other online strategies, MGN offers a snail mail promo service for sending postcards to a list. Members can have options such as having MGN print the cards and mail them to the user, or have MGN do the entire cycle from providing templates for layouts, printing and mailing, depending on how much the member wants to spend. (MGN pricing is not so high as to rule it out even for the most modest of promotional efforts. This will need to surveyed and priced according to the market. See MGN Revenue Sources).

As mentioned previously in band and venue promotion promotional strategies, MGN provides a way to create swag for Members by interfacing with such online companies as VistaPrint where there is the option to upload graphics that can then be printed onto paper formats (fliers, cards, posters, bumper stickers, etc.) and other objects (t-shirts, hats, jackets, etc.) and mailed to the user. A logo designing service is also available by interfacing with the appropriate vendors.

MGN can offer a Music Releasing Module for Indy DIY bands that notifies all relevant media outlets of the release, burns and sends demo CDs/DVDs to outlets, or podcasts of MP3s--whatever the media outlet needs in order to review and report on the release. Additionally, the Module registers releases on all relevant online outlets (such as ITunes, Zune, Hear Music, ArtistDirect, MP3.com, etc.). Bands can decide to use selected tracks as free downloads that are used by MGN on P2P networks to help create buzz. MGN provides its own P2P file sharing network among members, who can specify what files are shared within the Profile. The File Sharing Module also includes a private file upload area with a "share" option listed alongside each file name, which then automatically exposes it to the P2P network.

MGN develops relationships with the movie, TV, and radio creative depts. to encourage them to use MGN to find music for their projects, movies, TV shows, etc. A module exists for an Intellectual Property acquisition that includes the various options a buyer can offer an artist, and include that in a contract, or allow the file sharing of a buyer's contract if options are not included in the MGN templates. Those contract options are then included in template database for future use by others. In this way new ways of sharing, selling and using intellectual property can be propagated.

MGN develops band and venue "street teams" made up of fans and Member volunteers, who indicate a willingness to run posters, handouts, etc. for bands and venues to promote shows.
